What is the altitude of Tourist Peak?
The altitude of Tourist Peak is 3954 meters above sea level, just shy of a four-thousander. The peak is located right behind the pyramidal summit of Big Almaty Peak, and despite Tourist Peak being higher than BAP, from the city, BAP appears taller because it is simply closer. The altitude of Big Almaty Peak is 3680 meters above sea level. Big Almaty Lake is at an altitude of 2511 meters
How difficult is the hike to the Tourist Peak?
The ascent to the peak takes about 3-4 hours. Initially, the trail goes along a dirt road, then up a trail. This is a ridge route, and along the way, you will be greeted with various panoramic views of Prokhodnoye Gorge on the right and Big Almaty Gorge on the left. Before the peak, there is also a pre-summit. The ascent is available both in summer and winter.
What dangers may arise when climbing the Tourist Peak?
When climbing to a height above 2500 m.a.s.l., mountain sickness may occur with the following symptoms: headache, weakness and sickness. If such symptoms appear, you shall immediately inform your guide, make a stop, take out your bottle of water and drink as much water as possible in small sips. To prevent mountain sickness, you can do the following: go to the mountains a week before the hike, for example, climb to Shymbulak peak, get enough sleep one day before, and have a good breakfast in the morning, take at least 1 liter of water with you, as well as a chocolate bar. Another danger is getting sunstroke when staying in the sun without a hat. It's simple - take a Panama hat with you! And sunscreen and glasses will also save you from the harmful effects of the sun. Always take a raincoat or waterproof hardshell jacket - mountain weather is unpredictable! Remember that you are solely responsible for your health - be careful!
